I fell in love with naturally gluten free pigs in blanket when I saw a Christmas video from the UK. Sausages wrapped in bacon instead of pastry. Wow! I knew I could eat these and boy was I happy.
Naturally Gluten Free Pigs in Blanket – UK Style
I grew up on pigs in blanket with pastry. I loved them. They did not love me. Christmas, Superbowl, these were the times that recipe came out and my mother and I got busy in the kitchen. We would buy those little wieners in the meat section, gets lots of Pillsbury dough and cut those triangles into smaller triangles and roll, roll, roll.
It was amazing to me how much time it took to make versus how much time it took for the family to wipe those out. Mere minutes is what it would take. Literally, minutes and they were gone. Once we got diagnosed, Pigs in Blankets were a thing of the past. As many things were.
I got rid of cable six years ago, and I now watch a lot of YOUTUBE videos. Honestly, I watch too much YOUTUBE. I love VLOGMAS on YOUTUBE. A few years ago, one of my favorite creators is Grackle and one vlogmas, she had UK style gluten free pigs in blanket. Small gluten free sausages wrapped in wonderfully delicious gluten free bacon slices. WOW!
Unfortunately for us, it took me years before I tried making them. Last Christmas (2024) I got everything I needed to make this wonderfully simple but deliciously gluten free Hors d’oeuvres. I did not use a recipe because it seemed so simple. I should have read up honestly. Our first run at naturally gluten free pigs in blanket uk style was a little overwhelming.
You Need to Cook Those Gluten Free Pigs in Blankets Enough You Know
Slightly under cooked Pigs in Blanket are not as good as they sound even if they are gluten free. The bacon needs the perfect temperature and time to come out wonderfully. I had not looked into either of those things. DUH!
I tried again in 2025. Easter, I believe. This time I cooked them on a wire rack. They cooked better, but what a mess. I cleaned that wire rack twice to get the staining off. UGH!!!
You Can’t Revel in Your Gluten Free Pigs in Blanket if You Don’t Get the Recipe Down!
Do not ask me why I never looked at a recipe. I do not have an answer. I look up loads of recipes. Every week. I am constantly knee deep in recipes and ideas. This one never clicked. I just pushed on until I got it right. It is crazy, I admit it.
November of 2025 brought us Thanksgiving. We are normally so tired after the Thanksgiving rush we don’t really care about food. Easy day, easy fixins, lots of down time. I decided we needed an easy day of relaxing in front of the TV with some gluten free french onion dip, some ruffles chips and a platter of naturally gluten free pigs in blanket – uk style.
It is amazing to me that if you purchase two packages of breakfast saugsage and a 12 ounce package of bacon, that it comes out to 28 gluten free pigs in blanket. I cut the package of bacon in half. We then wrap half a piece of bacon around one sausage and put it on a cookie sheet.
It works out perfectly every time and I believe it was ordained in heaven to be the perfect amount for any holiday, party or event. YUMMY!
Now We Can All Make this Naturally Gluten Free Recipe
So, the past few months, I have been making this recipe. I worked until they came out perfect every time with as little mess as possible. Wrap those sausages, get them on a parchment lined pan, put them in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 to 22 minutes and you too can have a wonderfully naturally gluten free dish that anyone can share.
You’re Welcome!
